Playground Sling Gathering

This is a North Oxford special in the amazing Cutteslowe Park!

This park is well worth travelling to.. you’ll be back with family and friends. For any dog owners, there’s a popular mile long grassy track surrounded by trees. Cutteslowe & Sunnymead Park has so many things to offer not just three areas of playgrounds.

There are various children’s play areas, a small aviary, a steam train that you can sit on and go around a little track. The top field can be great for kite flying.

By car – the car park is at the end of Harbord road.

By bike – you can follow the bike path through the back roads of Summertown and over the specially built bike bridge that goes over the ring road.

By bus – take a number 20 or a number 7 towards Kidlington and get off at Harbord Road.

Bring small change for the car park and the ice cream van!

Kangaroo Sling Meet

We welcome you with your baby, toddler and/or older children to see the delights of the community garden in East Oxford.

Barracks Lane Community Garden is nestled within a residential area, right by the cycle path, a surprising wonder for those who venture to find it.

Oxford Sling Meet are collaborating with Oxford Attachment Parenting Oxford UK – Kangaroo Playgroup
and inviting all sling-wearing parents for a natter on the FIRST WEDNESDAY of the month, from 11am-1pm.

Children of all ages are here spending time in the big sandpit, in the rowing boat, in the willow den and in the hexagonal wooden hut.

£2 per family,
Bring lunch/snacks/drinks if you’ll be peckish!

How to Find It

The Garden is on Barracks Lane and can be accessed via Cumberland Road, off Cowley Road (and not the Holloway end of Barracks Lane). Go to the end of Cumberland Road, turn left onto Barracks Lane. The garden is situated in the corner where the Barracks Lane road meets the Barracks Lane footpath.

There are regular bus services to the Cowley Road from Oxford City Centre and Blackbird Leys, the nearest bus stop is Howard Street.

Visiting Address:
Barracks Lane Community Garden, Barracks Lane (off Cumberland Road), Oxford, OX4 2AP

There are enormous stripey ‘Welcome’ gates at the end of the alleyway of paintings. This gate is always kept closed so that there is a safe enclosed zone for the children. It may look closed from the cycle path but please venture in to discover this beautiful garden.

Playground Sling Meet

Summer is here and therefore lets make use of all the light and leafyness that Oxford has to offer!

Our first meeting will be on a THURSDAY and in Florence Parks main playground that is right next to the Children’s Centre. It has a huge sandpit, swings, spinney activities, wobbly bridge, slides, small slopey grass banks, toilets and nappy change facillities and is near to the John Allan Centre, as well as opposite Elder Stubbs organic apples and veg produce for sale.

There’s free parking all along Rymers Lane, Cornwallis Road and all the residential side streets in this area.
Toilets and Nappy Change are in a building next to the sand pit.

There’s actually three playground areas – the other two being potentially more suitable for older kids. All are worth checking out plus its a lovely park to walk around with lots of well tended flower beds and different types of trees.

The day and location of Playground Sling Meets will change, however it will always be the fourth week of the month so that those who are back at work can join us on varying days. We know that there are many brilliant playgrounds around Oxford. Please contact us if you know of an amazing playground with activities suitable for toddlers and babies who have head control (eg swings, slides, sandpit or little climbing areas).

We may even do some impromtu Playgournd Meets – we’ll keep you posted!

Barefoot Sling Meet – CANCELLED

Our Barefoot Books sling meets are now cancelled until the Autumn of 2015. See message from Barefoot Books below.

Dear Barefoot Friends,
Yesterday, a car reversed at speed into the wall of the studio, destroying the kitchen and causing structural damage to the building.

Thank you for your custom and we hope to re-open soon. Please look out for more news on Facebook and Twitter.

With best wishes,

The Barefoot Team, feeling very relieved that no-one was hurt.

How to Find Barefoot Books

Buses 2 and 2a from Oxford town centre, go towards Kidlington and stop in Summertown on the way. Barefoot Books is opposite a Sainsburys Local and next door to Majestic Wine Warehouse.

There is a large car park on Ferry Lane (for the Ferry Lane Sports Centre) connecting with Diamond Place car park and then it’s just about a five minute walk to Barefoot Books from there. Ferry Lane car park has more space and spaces and is only an extra 1-minute walk. We recommend this car park to you as Diamond Place is extremely busy all them time and with narrower spaces.

Parking prices are the same at both car parks:
0-1 hour £1.20,   1-2 hours £1.70,    2-3 hours £3.20,    3-4 hours £5.20

There is a slip road to one side of Banbury Road up the middle of Summertown. Sometimes there are a places to park for free for up to 1-hour. However, I can tell you that once you are inside the Barefoot Books studio and see and hear the colourful delights all around, one hour of parking is not enough!
